Thematic Apperception Test

The Thematic Apperception Test(TAT) is also known as picture interpretation technique.
It is a test where a subject is supposed to look at a card which contains picture and tells a story about it, including what the people in the story were feeling, what happened in the end, what led up to this happening, what was happening at the moment of time. If these points are left out, the person who left out these points would be counted as having a low cognitive ability. The TAT is a projective test like the Rorschach test, the assessment is based on what the subject projects onto the ambiguous images. There are two scoring systems in the Thematic Apperception test.
It is the:
Defense Mechanisms Manual: which assesses the subject's three defense mechanisms. That includes the person's thoughts and feelings into the story they are supposed to project.

Social Cognition and Object Relations: which assesses four different dimensions of object relations: Complexity of Representations of People, Affect-Tone of Relationship Paradigms, Capacity for Emotional Investment in Relationships and Moral Standards, and Understanding of Social Causality.

Usually, the Thematic Apperception test is used to motivate people to choose their occupation, but they are also used to assess personality disorder, thoughts disorder, and forensics to evaluate crime suspects.
